1 Star For the love of God do NOT use this!
This product almost killed me. I ended up on all fours while screaming for help and pouring water into my eye. Needless to say, I lost that particular contact. Did I read the directions and follow them precisely? No I did not. Am I sorry? Yes, I am. However, I don’t think that my failure to follow instructions deserved the punishment I got. This product BURNS! In my lifetime, I’ve gotten gasoline and windex in my eye (not at the same time) and I would prefer to wash my eyes out with either of those things than to touch Clear Care again. I was in pain for over 24 hours, and my eye looked like something out of a horror movie for 72 hours. I couldn’t wear contacts for a week. So, if you are brave and want to use this product, please follow the instructions exactly and use that stupid little cryptic contact case. If you’d rather play it safe, steer far clear of this horrific product. I really wish I was able to give this product negative stars.
5 Stars Clear Care Works!
And so do many other brands of lens cleaner. I like it because it is simple, easy and works without harsh chemicals. I’ve been wearing contacts for the better part of 12 years and have probably used just about every lens cleaner available at one time or another. I recently switched from Alcon due to price. Even at Costco the Alcon is about $19.00 for 2 bottles and the Clear Care is about $13.00 for the same amount.
I’ve found that over the course of time I use less of the Clear Care than I did the Alcon. I’m not quite sure why? To me the CC is very easy and self explanatory to use and can be used by anyone that can follow 3 simple instruction. I have NOT been “un-intelligent” enough to put the lenses in my eyes before the 6 hours are up but I’m sure that if someone says it stings, it probably does. Once again follow the directions. Alcon also states to leave the lenses in the solution for at least 6 hours so I don’t see why people are bringing this up as an issue???
One thing that I like is that you can see the solution doing something. The effervescent bubbles bring me comfort and assures me that the solution is actually cleaning and disinfecting (I hope). After the 6 hours are up all you do is remove the lenses from their cage and pop them in, no rinsing. I think this is another area where you save some solution.
As for comfort, I wear my lenses 16-17 hours a day and have yet to have an issue. I do wear Acuvue 2 week lenses so I do get a fresh set every 2 weeks.
Hope this simple, honest review can help someone out there!
5 Stars A Real Quality Product, Works As It Should
I recently had an eye exam and got new silicone hydrogel lenses (Acuvue Oasys), I had been using Renu for years and my doc recommended I switch to Optifree Replenish as it is compatible with those lenses. The first day I wore them I had no problems, after one overnight soak in the optifree it caused my eyes to become extremely dry. After some research and discussion with my doc I decided to try this stuff, wow wish I knew about this stuff a long time ago. After 2 days my eyes are back to normal extremely comfortable from the moment I put them in in the morning till I take them out at night. Ive also read that silicone hydrogel lense wearers have had solution compatibility problems and that this method is recommended because it cleans very well and doesn’t leave preservatives on the contacts like multipurpose solutions. Just follow the directions its actually very easy to not burn your eyes out if you use common sense and pay attention, and if your compelled to rinse your lenses either before or after you take them out you can pick up a big bottle of just saline solution for a couple dollars at your local walmart also this stuff is much cheaper at walmart fyi, only like $7 or so. Plus its neat to watch this stuff bubble and actually clean your lenses
Oh and another little tid bit if you still have dryness problems despite any contact solution consider trying soothe xp the stuff really does help keep your eyes moist better than systane or any other drops, I usually put a drop in each eye when I wake up before I put my contacts in and when I take them out just to make sure my eyes are properly moisturized for the day, I never have dryness problems.
4 Stars Great solution, but not perfect
I’ve used other contact solutions before trying clear care. They worked fine considering I never cleaned my lenses aside from storing them overnight. There were days where the lenses were very uncomfortable to wear though. Since I’ve used clear care I haven’t had any comfort issues. In fact, you can’t even feel the lenses at all. Now for the cons. This stuff actually costs more than the other cleaners because of the amount you have to use every night. I’d say with clear care you’re using 5-10 times the amount of solution every night. You go through this stuff fast. The other thing that’s REALLY ANNOYING is when you get to the end of the bottle there isn’t enough solution left to fill it to the line. So now you have to either throw out lenses that haven’t gotten full use, wear them overnight, drive to the store when you should be in bed, or always keep a second bottle handy to get the solution up to that fill line. But in the end this solution does a superior cleaning job and I’m willing to pay a little extra for it.
3 Stars Neither dangerous nor perfect
All the other reviews of this product have something in common: they’re all overblown in one way or another. Existing reviews either laud Clear Care as being the best thing since sliced bread, or an idea worse than using battery acid to clean your contacts.
After using the actual product for about two weeks, my take is it’s somewhere in between.
I bought this product because it was inexpensive at the local Kroger store compared to my regular Alcon green-bottle solution. I’ve been using either Alcon green, or B&L blue solutions since getting contacts about 15 years ago.
I can say that using the product as directed, I had some irritation and stinging a couple times. I’m not sure whether it was some unconverted peroxide still sitting on the lens, trapped between the lens and that strange contact case, or maybe just some gunk that didn’t get rinsed, or got coagulated on the lens after the lenses had their 6-hour daily bath.
Anyway, when it works as advertised (90% of the time), this seems about the same as the other top-notch solutions in terms of wearability of the lenses. Maybe slightly better wear time, and maybe slightly better protein removal (evidenced by lens clarity with old lenses). A little bit less convenient than conventional solutions. Definitely a bargain for what it cost (about half of what conventional solutions do). The solutions costing less than this one are generics that are harsh on my eyes (they seem like they were made with hard water or something). The Clear Care solution works great as far as comfort goes. I would have a hard time recommending this to kids, since if used differently than directed, it could cause some real “owies.”
